Gutted! Football runners up!
I have been like a woman possesed since 12.30 this afternoon. Jumping, screaming, shouting and getting really excited. My son was playing in his first ever football tournament representing the school this morning. We were expecting to get a phone call at about 11 o’clock saying that we had to pick him up as they had been knocked out.
All the primary schools (year 6) in Middlesbrough competed against each other. Now bear in mind, Green Lane school don’t normally enter these tournaments and have had no practice of playing other teams, where as some of the others play against each other reguarly.
We arrived at the tornament venue at about 12.30 and they had just won the quarter finals, then the pressure rose, as parents and other teams watched we got through the final!!!! yay :)
It was a 1 -1 draw so it had to go to penalties. Green Lane lost on penalities and the team was gutted to say the least, the boys and parents all shed a tear!! Linthorpe School played really well and they won the trophey, out lads got medals, for runners up and all went home really tired.
As we were never expecting them for getting this far, they have done amazingly well, so well done Green Lane and Mr. Hall (coach/teacher) for getting 2 nd place :)
